OVERVIEW As Johnson-Sheehan states in Chapter 4 of Technical Communication Today, "In the technical workplace, you will regularly encounter ethical challenges that you and your team [or colleagues] will need to resolve. In these situations, it you need to know how to identify what is at stake and then make an informed decision. Ethical behavior is more than a matter of personal virtue...it is good business" (61). It is likely that through the course of the research you've been conducting on the labor market outlook for your degree that you have come across a source or two that hints at the ethical dilemmas that might be relevant to the career paths available to those seeking that degree. If you haven't yet come across any sources that discuss such ethical dilemmas, you should look at this assignment as an opportunity to expand the horizons of your research. For example, extracurricular ethics-related training might be one way that CWU students in your field of study are (or could be) gaining a competitive edge in the labor market and thus increasing their chances of finding a good job upon graduation. The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to begin thinking about ethical challenges you might face as you pursue your career path and how you might go about resolving them. DIRECTIONS In order to complete this assignment, please follow the steps outlined below: • Read Chapter 4. • Identify an ethical dilemma you anticipate facing in your desired career, or one you've heard about others in that career facing. • Summarize/describe the dilemma briefly, using at least 1-2 specific examples. • Explain the personal, social, and conservation ethics that might inform your decision about, or reaction to, the dilemma. • Respond to the questions on pages 70-72 about making a good decision. Consider your audience for this post as the same audience for Writing Assignment #3: Analytical Report, but you should assume that audience is not as familiar as you are with the career at hand and/or the dilemma you are writing about. You should incorporate at least one source into your post. Submissions that don't meet all of the content requirements and/or that aren't carefully edited/proofread will not be eligible for full credit. When finished with your post, please respond to at least two classmates' posts: 1). Assess your classmates' description of the dilemma. Is their description strong enough for their intended audience? 2). Assess your classmates' explanation of the personal, social, and conservation ethics that might inform their decision about, or reaction to, the dilemma. Can you think of anything they might have overlooked or should further consider? 3). Assess your classmates' responses to the questions on pages 70-72.

Ethics play a significant role in everyone’s life and when it is connected with the concept of decision making then a lot of factors need to be checked. One ethical dilemma I faced years back was with my tuition fees. My father had given me the exact amount that the college demanded as the examination fee but at that time some students were protesting inside the university campus to reduce the examination fee. After like five days of constant negotiation the faculty went for a meeting with the other board members and it was finally decided that the examination fee would be reduced to half.
